The Mexican Consulate in conjunction with various organizations held the “Festival de Mariachi,” this past March 29, 2012 at the James Clark Performing Arts Center at the Nogales High School. The event celebrates the one-year anniversary since the City of Nogales, Arizona signed the Sister City’s agreement with the City of Nogales, Sonora. In attendance were Mayors from both cities, Arturo R. Garino and José Ángel Hernández and numerous members of their respective offices.
The event was held at no cost to the public in order to promote the local culture and arts. Audiences were treated to a night of remarkable traditional Mexican Mariachi music from groups like Mariachi Estrella from Nogales, Sonora and Mariachi Apache from the Nogales High School. Many other groups also participated providing unique entertainment that has made Santa Cruz County a hub for its culture entertainment.
“The Festival was breathtaking, and the auditorium was packed, It was great to see the community supporting such a spectacular event,” said City of Nogales Mayor Arturo R. Garino.
